August 16, 2009 outing

Last night was an interesting night. The bartender at Purple Heys, who used to work at the Jungle in days of yore, had asked me several months ago to be in his birthday show. I had agreed. So last night, I got up dolled up and went forth to do a show expecting to do two numbers. Well, turns out Sabra, a very long term friend of mine, was in charge of the show, and asked me for one number which I gave her. I picked Independence Day by Martina McBride...in large meaure because it is one I have done before, and I am fairly familar with.

Unfortunately, or maybe fortunately, the DJ has a problem getting the right song for the performers...even thought the orginal songstress, the cd, and the track are on the playlist, it seems that he has trouble getting the right one to play. So I come out on stage ready to do "Independence Day" and get greeted with the strains of "He Loves me like I am". I was momentary put aback but decided that I would just do the best I could.

Didnt get a lot of tips but then only those with large personal followings do. However several told me afterwards that I looked great, and did the song well. It was kind of ego boosting.

Now the downside came AFTER the show when I was ready to go....and I am still suffering the pain today. You see leaving the club, I walked out and around a truck, turned my heel or stepped in a drainage grid, now sure which, and fell phat on the ground. I am now limping with one foot badly strained, one knee skinned pretty badly and one hand bruised and beaten up. I almost got sick coming home in the car.

BTW, the picture above is of me with two of our long time friends, Vanessa Lee, she of the glamour (I just hate her cuz she is prettier and younger than me....grin) and Rodney. 1
